BIO
Art has always been a part of my life while growing up. Inspiration came from many sources and many talented artists from all over the world. Japanese aesthetics were always inspiring. I remember starting with Ikebana and trying my hand at many different media.
After my husband joined Aramco I moved to Dhahran. I started with classes at Dhahran Art Group (DAG) which was full of very talented and accomplished artists from all over the world. After trying my hand at painting I took a class in wheel throwing and that got me started. Something about working with clay really clicked and it started to become a central theme in my artwork.
I started experimenting with different firing techniques and Raku became a central part of my work. Over the years I have expanded my firing repertoire to include pit firing, saggar, horsehair raku, kosai fumed lusterware and crystalline glazes.
My pieces are either wheel thrown, hand built, altered or a combination of these methods. I now incorporate fused and cast glass in my artwork, sometimes by themselves and sometimes combined with clay artwork.
I like to mix my own glazes and use different finishing techniques such as photo-lithography, layered glazes and glass on clay surfaces. My inspiration – it has always come from many sources and the world around me. I often use Arabic calligraphy or traditional Japanese minimalist concepts but mostly, it just shows up in my mind and bugs me until it is made.
