Raku piece being removed from the kiln

INTRO

Pottery creation and finishing can be complicated as it uses many specialized equipment, materials and techniques.  The very nature of how these pieces are made, and finished, results in a unique, one off piece that cannot be replicated.  The closest you can get is that something similar can be made.

All of these pieces are created in my studio starting from scratch.  Clay is mixed and then either wheel thrown, slab rolled or hand made into the required shape.  Glass is either cast into a handmade, one-off use mold or cut and fused into the final shape.  In both cases, I use painter like techniques to imprint glass frit/powder designs or glazes into desired patterns on to the piece.  Photo-lithography may also be used for calligraphic elements but this introduces another level of complexity.
